About the Library

The SPX Library Media Center has a collection of 9,000 books including magazines for student use and a video/DVD collection for Faculty/staff use. The Library supports the mission and curriculum of SPX and creates an encouraging enviroment where students read, learn about literature, and study. When at the Library students have the opportunity to take Reading Counts quizzes, listen to book talks, and learn library and research skills valuable for future academic success. Students also have study halls. Battle of the Books meetings are held in the Library every Thursday for the 2007-08 school year.   Storytime is offered to grades K-4 on a weekly basis.  SPX students encourage fellow students to read books by writing book recommendations for display in the Library.

All students are able to check out library books during their weekly scheduled library period, in addition to other times when a class is not in the library and when the Librarian is present. The library is open after school until 3:30. Occasional meetings may close the library at 3:00.

Checkout policy:
  • Grades K-1 can check out 1 book, due in 1 week (after Christmas, Grade 1 can check out 2 books)
  • Grades 2-5 can check out 2 books, due in 1 week
  • Grades 6-8 can check out 2 books, due in 2 weeks

Students may have books renewed.  After 2 renewals, the student must return the book.

Grades 2-8 can still check out a second book if they renew the other one.

Overdue notices are sent home in Thursday folders.

In the event a book is lost, the replacement cost must be paid in order for a student to regain borrowing privileges.
