1) Are SPX Summer Camps
only offered to students who attend Saint Pius X School?
Saint Pius X (SPX)
Camps are offered to all area students in rising K-9th grades. Thus,
you do not need to be a current SPX student to attend.
2) What hours and days
does camp run?
Camp hours are 9:00
am – 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. We also have an extended day program (EDP).
Before Care runs from 7:30-9:00 am and After Care runs from 3:00-6:00 pm. The
first week of camp is June 9-13 and the last week of camp is August 11-15.
There are no camps offered the week of July 4th. There are fewer
camps offered on the weeks of June 9-13, August 4-8, and August 11-15.
3) Who will be teaching
my child’s camp?
The camp instructor’s name
is listed at the end of each camp description located in the weekly camp
schedule. To learn more about the individual camp teachers, refer to the “2008
Camp Instructors” pages. All summer camp teachers, assistants, and volunteers
remain current with the Virtus Protecting God’s Children program in which they
learn how to prevent, recognize, and report child abuse. SPX School performs
thorough and continuous criminal background checks on all employees.
4) What is the teacher
to student ratio in my child’s camp and how many children will be in the camp?
Our ratio for summer camps consists of 1 adult
for every 7 campers in the camp. We do not allow more than 25 campers in our
enrichment camps (unless there are two sections with two camp instructors) and
some specialized camps limit their total numbers to 15 or less. Although our
sports camps attract larger numbers (between 20-40 campers), we still honor the
same 1:7 ratio. In our larger camps, campers are usually split into smaller
groups by age and/or ability.
5) What is the price of
SPX Camps?
All camps are $135 each. We are sometimes able
to prorate camps but prior approval by the camp director is required. Please
contact Mrs. Warren at least one week in advance for prorating options. Your
child must attend a minimum of 3 days of the camp week in order to prorate.
This may be helpful for Guilford County Schools students who are only able to
attend three days during the week of June 9-13. Master Hendrix will honor the
prorated option on that week as well. During the week of SPX Church Vacation
Bible School, your child may attend a half-day camp day from 12:00–3:00 pm.
Contact Mrs. Warren for more information. NOTE: SPX DOES NOT OFFER DROP-IN DAYCARE SERVICE!
6) Should campers bring
a lunch or snack? Are concessions available?
All campers need to bring a bag lunch and/or
snack each day. Concessions (drinks and snacks) are also offered daily.
Concession prices range between 25¢ and $1.00.
7) Does SPX have a
Before and After Camp Care program available?
An Extended Day Program (EDP) is available each
camp week. Before Care begins at 7:30 am at the rate of $2 per day and will be
held in the Alumni Auditorium (Old Gym). After Care is offered from 3:00-6:00
pm daily at the rate of $6 per day. After Camp Care will be held in the
Connolly Center (New Gym) each day. Late fees will apply to any children picked
up after 6:00 pm at the rate of $1 per minute. Payment is due by the Friday
of each week attended. You do not need to register your child for the EDP
program; it is available to all camp registrants.
8) How do I pay for
camps?
Camps can be paid by check made payable to Saint Pius X
School, by money order, or with PayPal by visiting our website at
www.saintpiusxk-8.org. All camp balances are due by
May 30th. If you are registering after May 30th, you will
need to send in full payment for the camp.
9) What is PayPal?
You may have heard of PayPal as a payment option
through other reputable Internet websites. PayPal allows you to send money
online by submitting a secure electronic payment from your credit card or bank
account without revealing your financial information. In order to pay for camps
with PayPal, you will need to register with PayPal online at www.paypal.com.
There is no cost to register with PayPal.
10) Do I need to pay the
total amount due when I register?
A non-refundable
deposit of $35 per camp is required in order to register your child
before May 30th. The $35 deposit is inclusive of the camp balance,
meaning that if you pay $35 per camp initially, you will only owe a balance of
$100 for each camp by May 30th. All unpaid balances on accounts are
due by May 30th unless payment arrangements have been made with Mrs.
Warren. Any payment received after May 30th will incur a $35 late
fee.
11) What is your refund
policy?
If you need to
cancel a camp, you will be refunded the camp total received minus the $35
non-refundable deposit per camp. Please let Mrs. Warren know that your child
will be unable to attend camp by the Friday of the week before the camp is
scheduled to begin. Refunds are usually processed within 4-6 weeks through our
school’s business office.
12) How do I obtain a
written receipt?
We will be glad to email, fax, or mail you a
receipt for SPX Camps. Current SPX students may also opt to have a copy sent in
their child’s Thursday folder. Be sure to fill in your preference on the back
of the Registration Application. All receipts sent via email will be in .pdf
format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. You may download a free version of
this program at www.adobe.com. Note: Hendrix’ EMA Camps are separate
from all other SPX camps. You will need to contact Monty Hendrix directly if
you require a written receipt for his camps.
13) How do I register my
child for a camp?
SPX Registration Applications are available in
the camp book and online at www.saintpiusxk-8.org. Separate registration
applications should be filled out for each child attending camp.
14) How late can I
register?
You may register up
until the Friday before the camp week requested if the camp is still
available. Please refer to the school website or contact the camp before
registering for camp availability. If you register after May 30th,
you will need to include a late fee of $35 with your application and make full
payment on your account when registering. SPX campers who sign up by May 2nd
receive a FREE CAMP T-SHIRT, so be sure to register early.
15) Does Saint Pius
offer drop-in day care service?
Absolutely not! Do not drop
your child off at the school without registration confirmation or prior approval
from the camp director.
16) How will I know if a
camp has been cancelled or is full?
Camps are filled on a first-registered,
first-served basis, so make sure your child registers as soon as possible. All
closings will be listed on the school website, so be sure to check
www.saintpiusxk-8.org for the most updated information before sending in your
registration form. You will be notified immediately after registering if camp
is full and/or adjustments need to be made. All cancellation notifications will
be made by Wednesday, June 4th.
17) Where should campers
report in the mornings?
All campers and parents/guardians should report
to the main entrance of the school (off Elm Street). A message board will
instruct you as to where your child’s camp will be held. The camp teacher will
be available to sign your child in after 8:55 am each morning. DO NOT CHECK IN
YOUR CHILD INTO CAMP BEFORE 8:55 am. This allows camp teachers time to prepare
for the day. If you arrive before 8:55 am, you will need to check your child
into Before Camp Care and there will be a charge.
18) Do I need to sign my
child in and out of camp each day?
You must sign your child in and out of camp each
day. Campers arriving before 8:55 am will need to check into Before Camp Care
and there will be a charge. If you have not picked up your child by 3:05 pm,
he/she will be checked into After Camp Care and there will be a charge. YOU WILL
NEED TO ACCOMPANY YOUR CHILD INTO AND OUT OF THE BUILDING EACH CAMP DAY. This
policy ensures the safety of your child at all times.
19) What if my child
needs to take daily medication?
Campers needing daily medication will need to
bring in a correct dosage along with a signed Medication Authorization Form
(found on the school website under “Forms” labeled “Medical Authorization
Form-B”).
20) Do some camps go on
field trips?
No. All camp activities take place on the Saint
Pius X School campus.
21) How do I obtain the
latest information about SPX Camps?
Visit the SPX website at www.saintpiusxk-8.org or contact
Lori Warren by phone at 336.273.9865, ext. 137 or via email at
spxcounselor@yahoo.com. Please be sure to check the
website before registering for camps. It is continuously updated with
