Coach Fabian Arias
is a former professional soccer player who now coaches in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  He has played for various “club” soccer teams in Argentina, Peru, Spain, Mexico, and Ecuador including Club Boca Juniors, Club Cienciano, and Club Deportivo Quito.  This is his second year running camps at Saint Pius X.  He enjoys sharing his soccer skills and talent with children of all ages and looks forward to working with your children again this summer.

Mrs.  Arias is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology.  She served in the US Navy for 10 years and is pursing a Master’s Degree in Project Management at Keller University.  Currently she works as a Project/Account Manager at Miller Zell in Atlanta.  Mrs. Arias learned to play chess when she was in the third grade.  She lived in Chicago at the time and the cold winters left her plenty of time to master the game in the warm indoors.  She has been playing chess ever since and no matter where in the world she has been with her military travels, she has always found time for the game and several unfortunate opponents.

Mrs. Cindy Basel has worked at Saint Pius X School for the past five years and is currently the assistant for the SPX Learning Support program.  This is also her fifth year running summer camps.  Mrs. Basel is very creative and has a high energy level.  She works at a local dance studio assisting in classes and enjoys dancing herself.  She is also involved in the selection of costumes for the studio and creates many of the costumes for the dance competition team.  With an artistic background, Mrs. Basel enjoys helping children be creative and can’t wait to assist her scrapbookers and dancers in exploring their artistic talents this summer.

Mrs. Christine Bond is a graduate of Appalachian State University where she was a Teaching Fellow Scholarship recipient.  With a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in history, Mrs. Bond enjoys making history come alive for her students.  She is a fourth grade teacher at Jamestown Elementary School where she loves teaching reading, social studies, and writing.  This is her second year at SPX Summer Camps and she looks forward to working with your child at the Fairy Tale Princess, Pirate, Wild, Wild West, and Tropical Paradise camps.

Mrs. Elizabeth Bradshaw has a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She has been teaching for five years and is currently a fifth grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School.  She enjoys teaching all subject areas and thoroughly enjoys arts, crafts, and science.  She is looking forward to sharing these talents with your children at SPX Summer Camps!

Mrs. Cathy Brown is the Director of Irving Park Preschool, where she has been employed for the past 14 years.  She is also an assistant with the Saint Pius X Extended Day Program.  She has volunteered in the Guilford County School System for the past 18 years as well as for the Boy Scouts when her son was younger.  Mrs. Brown has taught Faith Formation at Saint Pius X Catholic Church for nine years and is in her third year of running summer camps at SPX.  She plans on having a fun-filled summer!

Mrs. Lynn Brunhuber has an Associate of Arts degree in Art and Design from the State University of New York.  She worked in the Advertising Department for the JC Penney Company in New York City for five years before working for a small ad agency.  She has been with Saint Pius X for 16 years and has taught many summer arts and crafts camps.  Currently, she teaches art to grades 1-8 after school.  Mrs. Brunhuber is an experienced oil painter who enjoys teaching painting and drawing classes, and sharing her talent with the children.  She believes all children can learn to draw.

Coach Laura Collins is currently a Kindergarten teacher at Saint Pius X School and has taught 6th grade and resource in the past.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education K-6 and Reading K-12 from East Carolina University.  Along with her teaching experience she has coached high school cheerleading competition teams, cheerleading camps, and JV cheerleaders at Saint Pius X.  She loves working with children and having fun!  Mrs. Collins is excited to be part of the summer camp program again this year. 

Ms. Holly Danley is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and is currently working as an Exceptional Children’s teacher at Graham High School.  Ms. Danley loves to be outdoors and loves cooking.  She is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces again this year in her All About Animals and Ooey Gooey Science Experiments camps!

Ms. Melinda DeVaughn retired from the US Navy in 2000 as an Information Specialist Technician.  During her 20 years in the Navy, she traveled all around the world.  She currently is the K-4th grade Computer Teacher, Extended Day Program Director, and JV Girls Basketball Coach at Saint Pius X School.  She has played and refereed basketball for over 20 years.  She is certified with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and referees games for Guilford County Schools and Guilford County Parks & Recreation.  This is Ms. DeVaughn’s seventh year teaching summer camps.

Mrs. Barbara Egloff has taught children for 31 years and has taught third grade at Saint Pius X for the past six years.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University.  She was a former Teacher of the Year for the Davidson County School System.  Mrs. Egloff enjoys working with children and learning with her students.  Her third grade students have enjoyed making holiday plastic canvas items such as Santas, snowmen, ghosts, and other goodies!

Coach Dana Forrester is an instructor with Eastern Cheer and Dance Association.  She has traveled throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia working with middle and high school cheer squads.  She was formerly the Assistant Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Saint Pius X School, previous assistant coach for the Junior Blue Team of the Greensboro All-Star Cheerleading program, and former Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Immaculate Heart of Mary School.  She has received numerous cheerleading accolades including receiving the Bishop McGuinness High School Coach’s Award for Varsity Cheerleading, as well as serving as captain of the BMHS Cheerleading Squad and GAC Cheerleading Team.  She currently attends Appalachian State University, majoring in elementary education.  Coach Forrester has worked for  SPX Summer Camps since 2003 and looks forward to working with your girls again this summer!

Coach Chris Gammon graduated from Guilford College receiving degrees in Secondary Education and History.  He played football throughout college.  Currently, he teaches Social Studies and coaches football at Graham High School.  This is Coach Gammon’s first year teaching sports camps at Saint Pius X.  He can’t wait to meet all of the basketball, football, and all sports future stars this summer!

Coach Sarah Graves grew up in Greensboro and attended Saint Pius X School.  She graduated from Grimsley High School in 2001 and attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, graduating in 2005.  She is in her third year of teaching physical education at North Topsail Elementary School in Hampstead, North Carolina.  She is also the Varsity Girl’s Basketball Coach at Topsail High School.  Coach Graves worked at Saint Pius X Summer Camps while in college and is eager to come back home to work again.  We hope that you will come out and join Coach Graves for a week filled with Indoor/Outdoor Games fun!

Mrs. Lucinda Hernandez is the Physical Education Teacher Assistant for Saint Pius X School.  She has been an employee of Saint Pius X for the past four years, where she has served as a teacher assistant in 2nd grade, 5th grade, Middle School, Spanish, and Physical Education.  She has been a teacher and assistant for SPX Summer Camps for the past four years and is excited about running the Spanish, Cooking & Crafts, That’s Entertainment, Field Day, and Games camps!

Coach Jennifer Powell graduated from Rockingham County Senior High School in 1995, where she lettered in four sports all four years, earning sixteen varsity letters.  Her jerseys were retired and now hang in the commons area of the school.  She went on to play basketball at Greensboro College, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.  She was gladly welcomed back to her old high school, where she currently teaches Physical Education and Health.  Coach Powell loves teaching sports and health, and is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces in the All Sports Camp again this summer!

Ms. Laura Sexton has been an employee at Saint Pius X School for the past six years.  Currently, she is the full-time Teacher Assistant in Mrs. Logan’s Kindergarten class.  She enjoys reading, art, and dancing.  This will be Ms. Sexton’s fifth year teaching camps at Saint Pius X.  She is very creative, fun, and energetic, and enjoys working with children of all ages.  She is looking forward to a supersonic summer!

Coach Josh Thompson is in his fourth year as the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Bishop McGuinness High School.  He has a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He has coached high school basketball for 10 years.  Coach Thompson also was the student-assistant for the UNCG Men’s Basketball Team in 2000-2001 where the team reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  From there, he coached the JV team at Bishop McGuinness for two years.  Coach Thompson also works other basketball camps around the area including his own camp at Bishop, along with UNC-Greensboro and Mike Krzyzewski's Duke Basketball Camp.

Coach Chrissy Verchick is the Varsity Boys Soccer Coach at Saint Pius X School.  She is also the Assistant Art Teacher and leads the Young-At-Art program.  She has coached soccer at all levels for over 20 years and played collegiate soccer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She has three children and can’t wait to be a part of SPX Summer Camps.

CAMP ADMINISTRATION:

Mrs. Lori Warren is in her eighth year as the Guidance Counselor and Summer Camp Director for Saint Pius X School.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master of Science degree in Community Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) as well as a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).   In addition to being a full-time employee of Saint Pius X School, she serves as a counselor and group therapist in private practice at The Cornwell Center for Behavioral Health, Inc.

Miss Andrea Matkins is in her seventh year working with SPX Summer Camps.  Prior to this year, she was an instructor running fun-filled, energized camps while also helping with assorted camp duties.  This summer, she is excited to be your Assistant Camp Director.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master of Education degree from Greensboro College.  She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Sorority for Education as well as a member of Psi Chi, a National Honor Society in Psychology.   Miss Matkins has taught 4th grade at Jamestown Elementary School for the past three years after serving in many capacities at Saint Pius X.  As Assistant Director, she will help Mrs. Warren with the daily management of the camp program.  Miss Matkins’ goal each summer has been to ensure every child participating in her camps has an exciting, safe and fun summer while also obtaining enrichment during the camp week.  She will now take that goal to her new job responsibilities as she helps Mrs. Warren maintain the best summer camp program in Greensboro!
