July 7-11 

Ø Cheerleading (rising K-3rd grades) Hands on hips, smile on lips, spirit in your heart - - let’s start!  Enjoy a week of learning jumps, chants, cheers, a fun warm-up dance, a performance dance, and beginning stunts as we improve and learn how to be GREAT CHEERLEADERS!  We will also make accessories that every cheerleader needs such as hair bows and t-shirts.  Whether you’re a beginner or an old pro, come out for a week of fun as we improve our moves to show to an audience at the end of the week.  (Coach Forrester)

Ø Ooey Gooey Science Experiments (rising grades K-5th grades) – Do you love having fun in the laboratory?  Spend a week learning how science can be fun and exciting!  Each day will be spent working on creative experiments.  The sky is the limit for the fun we will have in this camp.  From making your own slime to creating a volcanic eruption right before your eyes, this camp is sure to blow your mind!  (Ms. Danley)

Ø The Wild, Wild West (rising K-5th grades) – Yeeh-haw partner!  You’ll have a rootin’ tootin’ great time at this camp!  We will play games, learn about the lives of cowboys and cowgirls, and create some great western wear crafts!  Do you love horses?  Cowboys and cowgirls sure do and we’ll learn about the horses that used to thunder across the plains in the west.  We will also solve the mystery of the horse- thieving bandits!  With the help of wanted posters, daily clues and a scavenger hunt, we’ll solve the mystery and find the bad guys!  Don’t miss out on this wild, wild week!  (Mrs. Bond)

Ø Snack Attack (rising K-6th grades) – Here a snack, there a snack, anyone having a snack attack?  Grab the bowl, grab the spoon and come join us in the cooking room.  We will stir up goodies and stir up treats; we will stir up some wonderful things to eat.  We will be creative and “non-cook” snacks to ward off the terrible hunger attacks.  So come on, are you hungry yet?  (Ms. DeVaughn)

Ø Spanish Camp (rising K-6th grades) ¿Se habla español?  We do!  Bienvenidos a Saint Pius X Spanish Camp.  You’ll spend the week brushing up on Spanish words, eating foods from various Spanish cultures, making Spanish crafts, and learning a little bit about the different Spanish-speaking countries.  You’ll also participate in Spanish games such as la payana (a game using stones), juego de bolitas (a game using marbles), juego de bolsas (a game similar to sack races), juego de elastico (a game using elastic), and fútbol (soccer). ¡Venga a nuestro campamento llena de actividades divertidas! Ø Girls Rule!!! (rising 3rd-9th grades) Are you a “girly-girl” like me?  In this camp we will make jewelry and friendship bracelets, paint fingernails, sing songs, create a fashion show, make body glitter and lip gloss, and design our own signature “girly girl” t-shirts!  Let’s show this world what we are all about!  This camp is sure to be packed with fun, so sign up today.  We’re looking forward to seeing all our fantastic girls soon!  (Mrs. Bradshaw)

Ø Flag Football Frenzy (rising 4th-9th grades) - Do you love football and competing with your friends?  If so, spend a week learning the ropes of football and having a great time participating in daily games, a punt-pass-and kick competition, and a flag football tournament.  We’ll emphasize safety techniques and work on good sportsmanship.  Who knows?  Maybe you’ll become the next Eli Manning!  (Coach Gammon)

Ø Around the Campfire (rising K-4th grades) – Do you love camping and the outdoors?  This week we will be busy making our own backpacks, eating s’mores, “fishing”, going on a scavenger hunt, making dream catchers, singing around the “campfire”, and many, many more fun activities.  Make sure you don’t miss out on this exciting camping adventure!  (Mrs. Verchick)

Ø Cheerleading (rising K-4th grades)“It’s time to move; it’s time to groove.  Get off your feet and rock it to the beat!”  Come join the fun and learn new cheerleading techniques.  We will learn cheers, stunts, jumps, and a dance.  Safety strategies will be emphasized through the entire camp.  “So don’t miss out, just come and shout.  You give it your best.  We’ll do the rest!”   (Coach Collins)

Ø Jiggles, Wiggles, & Giggles (rising K-4th grades) – Help, help!  Mrs. Sexton is on the loose, so jump off your caboose!  She’s found a rhyming goose!  She has picked up copies of your favorite books and has enough to fill up a room.  From Antaloopscoops to Zizzlezazzlefoom, this camp will be a boom!  Make sure you don’t miss this week of adventure, laughter, and fun.  You may even spend some time reading outside in the sun before we’re done!  Share your favorite book and you will be hooked to create your own and you will be known.  So whatever you do, don’t delay.  To guarantee your spot, sign up today!    (Ms. Sexton) CANCELLED

Ø Superb Superheroes (rising K-5th grades) Calling all superheroes!  Grab your superpowers and come join us for a superb time!  You will spend each morning learning about different superheroes.  Then you will get to transform yourself into a superhero complete with your own name, superpowers, costume and cape!  This is an opportunity you do not want to miss.  We hope to see you fly in soon!  (Mrs. Bradshaw)

Ø Chess I for Beginners (rising 3rd-9th grades) – ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?  Chess is a battle between two armies played on a board.  The game is over 1300 years old and is one of the most popular games in the world.  It’s easy to learn but can take a lifetime to master and yet it’s downright fun.  Come have some fun and learn some chess.  Please bring a chessboard with you each day.  Inexpensive ones may be purchased at stores that sell board games.  (Ms. DeVaughn)

Ø Cooking & Crafts (rising 3rd-9th grades) – Do you like to cook?  Well, we do and the easier the better!  This week we will prepare quick and easy appetizers, salads, desserts, and more.  While we wait for our food, we will keep our hands busy making fun, simple crafts centered around each day’s unique theme.  Your family will be impressed with the artistic and culinary skills you will acquire by the end of the week!  (Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Hernandez)

Ø Soccer (rising 4th-9th grades) – Returning to SPX Camps from Atlanta again this year, visiting coach and former professional soccer player Coach Arias has a camp designed for players of all levels.  Whether you’re a beginner or an old pro, he will teach you some super soccer skills and techniques as well as some neat tricks that will help you accelerate your game.  Campers will participate in skills training, half field games, full field games, and indoor training each day.  We’ll even put aside some fun time for you to show off your skills to the group!  Be sure to sign up for a week filled with soccer fun.  (Coach Arias) 

 

 

 

July 21-25 

Ø Soccer (rising K-3rd grades) – Returning to SPX Camps from Atlanta again this year, visiting coach and former professional soccer player Coach Arias has a camp designed for beginning and intermediate soccer players.  He will teach you some basic soccer skills and techniques, and maybe even a neat soccer trick or two to show off to your friends!  Campers will participate in basic skills training, half field games, full field games, and indoor training each day.  Be sure to sign up for a week filled with soccer fun!  (Coach Arias) 

Ø Barnyard Bonanza (rising K-5th grades) – Giddy-up y’all!  Get ready for a roundup.  Let’s get countrified!  We will learn about country living on a farm and farm animals, as well as many fun and interesting facts and stories.  Create your favorite barnyard animal and do a skit.  We will enjoy making lots of western crafts and fun activities.  Ride in to make some sizzlin’ snacks.  Grab your cowboy hat and kick up your boots for a dandy of a good time.  See y’all real soon, ya’ hear?  (Ms. Sexton)

Ø Things That Go! (rising K-5th  grades) – Do you like to go, go, go?  Have you ever thought about all the things that go?  Rockets, airplanes, trains, cars, and boats are just a few.  How about racing your own race car, building your own motorcycle, flying your own helicopter, and working on your own construction site?  These are just a few of the things we will be doing this week.  Who knows?  We may even have some surprise visitors bringing by some vehicles that go before the week is over!  (Mrs. Brown)

Ø That’s Entertainment (rising K-9th grades) – Casting Call!  We need talented children to perform in front of an audience!  Each day we will expand our talents, practice, make props, and build up excitement to the big Variety Show.  We will practice and perform a musical together and then work on our solo and small group performances.  Make sure you don’t miss out on karaoke hour!  If you can act, sing, dance, play a musical instrument, do magic, draw, or tell jokes, we need you for this camp.  Apply soon!  Space is limited.  (Mrs. Hernandez)

Ø Indoor/Outdoor Games (rising 2nd-9th grades) – Do you prefer to play games outdoors or inside?  With two or more players?  Well, no matter what you fancy, we’ve got you covered!  We will play all sorts of games…board games and card games, easy games and hard games.  We will play indoor games and outside games, team games, and even solitaire.  What is your favorite game?  Oh yes, we will play that too.  (Coach Graves)

Ø Arts and Crafts Class (rising 3rd - 6th grades) – I love arts and crafts and so will you!  We’ll do something new and different everyday.  We’ll learn how to make crimped and quilled sunflowers, clay wind chimes, and paper clay dragonflies with neat designs.  Create beautiful paste papers to cover your journal!  We’ll create Fimo clay jewelry, ribbon wired flowers, pom pom pets, flowers pens, and more.  Join the fun!  There will be lots of surprises.  (Mrs. Brunhuber)

Ø Spa-licious! (rising 3rd-9th grades) – Girls just want to have fun!  Come spend a week doing all the things girls love to do.  We’ll pamper and primp with manicures and pedicures.  We’ll relax with exercise and yoga.  We’ll drink smoothies and cook up yummy snacks.  We’ll even create fun art and cool crafts.  If you love to laugh, sing, express your own style, relax and have fun, come join us at the SPX Spa/Salon!  (Mrs. Verchick) CLOSED                                  

 

 

July 28 - August 1 

 

Ø Doggie Dog World (rising K-5th grades) – Ruff!  Ruff!  Come and celebrate some famous dogs.  From heroes to animations, dogs are the best companions in the world.  Join us for a week of fun and creativity as we teach you all the interesting facts about dogs.  We will make some fun art and crafts, play games, tell stories, and invent new tricks.  Bark your way into this camp and share your dog with us.   (Ms. Sexton)

Ø Fancy Footwork (rising K-5th grades) This week will be packed full of fun games and activities that will  keep those toes and feet moving all week!  We will participate in sack relays, exciting games of “fútbol tenis” (soccer tennis), practice our jumping rope skills, enjoy a few kickball games, compete in a three-legged race, play a few rounds of crab soccer, learn how to use a beanbag foot sack, practice our soccer skills (dribbling, passing, kicking, etc.), and even work on some fun aerobic exercises!  Boys and girls are encouraged to attend this week dedicated to their feet!  (Coach Arias)

Ø Tropical Paradise (rising K-5th grades) Aloha!  Your dream destination has arrived at SPX Summer Camp!  Enjoy the fun and excitement of visiting a tropical island all week long.  You will be transported to a tropical land where you will create tropical-inspired crafts such as Hawaiian necklaces, grass skirts, and flowers.  We will play instruments, dance, and play games to the sounds of island music.  Wear your flip-flops and sunglasses and join us for a fun-filled week in the tropical sun!  (Mrs. Bond)

Ø Getting Crafty with Carolina (rising 2nd-9th grades) – From the mountains to the ocean, we’ll travel around our state in 5 days.  Learn about local art and create crafts that make North Carolina special.  We’ll take our inspiration from our beautiful coast, our awesome mountains, our rich history, and our interesting people.  We’ll even make some special North Carolina foods.  Come join us for a fun Tar Heel adventure!  (Mrs. Verchick) CANCELLED

Ø Chess II for Advanced Players (rising 3rd-9th grades) – Come exercise your mind!  There are few games that can match chess for its usefulness as a tool for developing cognitive abilities.  Join us if you are up for the challenge.  We will record our games, learn some strategies, and players will receive a ranking for the week.  Please bring a chessboard with you each day.  Inexpensive ones may be purchased at stores that sell board games.  (Mrs. Arias)

Ø In the Kitchen (rising 3rd-9th grades) – Cooking is fun, especially with friends!  Come spend a week learning how to cook a variety of dishes including special snacks, yummy appetizers, sweet treats, and even some entire meals.  Won’t your parents be surprised when you help them measure ingredients, prepare menus, and help them in the kitchen?  Oh, and did we mention you’ll get to eat the food too?  Join us for a week of food and fun, featuring Friday lunch prepared by the campers.  (Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Hernandez)

Ø Basketball (rising 4th-9th grades) – This camp will provide a variety of skills and drills in order to improve your skills no matter what your age level.  There will also be team play and individual competitions.  You will get to meet and play basketball with some of the Bishop McGuinness Varsity Basketball players.  Join Coach Thompson for a week of basketball fun!  (Coach Thompson)

Ø Games  (rising K-9th grades) – You will never imagine how much fun you can have in one week until you sign up for this camp!  Join me for a week of fun and games including obstacle courses, brain teasers, games like bingo, seven-up, and four square, board games, scavenger hunts, teambuilding activities, strategy games, relay races, water balloon contests, and much, much more.  You’ll have new and exciting games to teach and play with your family and friends!  If that’s not all, by the end of the week you will even have a game to take home that you invented yourself!  Please note: campers will be split into two groups, based on age and ability.  (Mrs. Hernandez)
